We have a simple, but robust mission: to help in the empowerment of sisterhood through health related issues, education, cultural awareness and socio- economic power.
Ghanamaa was founded in 2006, by Mrs Adiiza Bucary , who was born and raised in the West African country of Ghana. Educated in Ghana, England and the United States of America.
"As a female child growing up in the male dominated society of Ghana, the rebel in me hated the way the female was suppressed culturally, socially, and economically; more so culturally. I vowed then that when given the opportunity someday, i will make a positive contribution to society and make a difference; be it the empowerment of women by any means necessary. Thus the formation of GHANAMAA, first as a social group (Sisterhood and friendship),and then as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that focuses its CAUSES to women as it stands today!!!
You may ask the name GHANAMAA? It is in honour of my birth country....GHANA(where the seeds were first planted) and the suppressed women of the time (MAA means Women/ladies). In a nutshell, Ghanamaa means women of Ghana. Nonetheless, we are a 'Rainbow', like the United Nations!"
